Mike HATHORNE | CNU-a, FBCI, MUEP

I am an author, educator, and urbanist specializing in demographic change, housing markets, and community design. I am driven by the conviction that community building is not an aesthetic preference—it is a practical and moral response to the realities shaping American life: aging households, changing family structures, increasing diversity, and growing demand for walkable, connected places.

I currently serve as Director of Pre-Development at High Street Real Estate & Development in Fayetteville, Arkansas, supporting the early-stage work that turns a vision into a viable plan. My focus is on aligning design intent, market positioning, and entitlement strategy so that walkable neighborhoods and mixed-use centers can be delivered in ways that are financeable, buildable, and enduring.

My book - The Great Housing Reversal and the New American Dream - is a clear expression of this mission. It explores how the American built environment must evolve—expanding housing choice, strengthening local places, and meeting daily needs through neighborhood design that supports real households at every stage of life.

My work goes beyond shaping spaces. It is about strengthening the relationships between people and the places they inhabit—and ensuring that the next era of housing and community development is both attainable and worthy of the people it serves.

We Work to Create Better Communities

Commun1tyONE believes in the enrichment of people’s lives by not accepting status quo thinking about how our human habitat is generated.

Instead, we embrace the methods and tools of community building which demand the opportunity for delivering distinct and inclusive neighborhoods that will provide for the daily needs of those that reside within them.

We are COMMUNITY BUILDERS! Let’s get this done.
